Fun with Food
Well, I am happy to report that I am finally feeling less nauseous today. I still don't have much of an appetite, so I am sticking to ye olde bland diet -- you know, BRAT, bananas, rice, applesauce, toast. I have to say, though, that rice is the last thing I want to visit (or re-visit, if you catch my drift) with my stomach when I am sick. So I guess mine is more like the BAT diet, huh?
Since my stomach is feeling a little more solid, I am less afraid of food and can "force" down a few healthy bites here and there. Hopefully this will help improve my strength and energy over the next few days.
And speaking of food, we are going to have to do some "damage control" at Zach's school after this week. First of all, I got a frantic phone call from the administration that he has been both collecting rocks at school and bringing them from home. His backpack was so heavy and full of rocks that they asked him not to bring or collect any more. He replied, "I can if I want to, and you can't stop me." Argh! Let the cosmic power struggle begin. I had become aware of the situation and had actually checked his backpack the next morning, but they found a rock -- a single rock -- in a side pocket and felt that this was a sign of outright defiance. Zach and I had a talk, and he reluctantly agreed to forgo the carrying of rocks in the backpack.
Second, I remembered late yesterday evening that today was Zach's turn to bring a snack for the class. I haven't shopped since we got home because we are organizing and cataloging the pantry this week, and I am making my list as we go. So, I called Autumn at work and asked her to stop by the store and pick up 24 of something for the class. You know, like peach cups or granola bars. When she came home at 11:30 p.m., she had purchased two boxes of GIGANTO Little Debbie Oatmeal Cakes -- more sugar than I would normally let Zach have in a full week. I'm sure the teacher was thrilled to see that snack coming to a room full of rowdy 4th graders. Maybe we will be rotated OFF of the snack list for a while ...
And so, ordinary life has resumed and marches onward -- and, thankfully, I am feeling a little better equipped to handle it.

Was it the rock from Venice Beach? lol
I know each day you'll feel stronger.....I've put in a good word for you at the top.
love.................me
A boy after my own heart. When I was a kid I had a rock collection, but I didn't take it to school. That's pretty funny. I did keep it in a small suitcase and when I "ran away from home" one day, I took it with me. I didn't get far.
Maybe he just needed a sense of control in his life. Doesn't sound like he harmed anyone.

I know it was frustrating to you Duchess but? ... Little boys crack me up. I am the oldest in a family with 7 boys and have 4 other sisters. I have seen my little brothers carry in everything from rocks, leaves, 'weed flowers' with the roots and dirt still dangling beneath them, and grasshoppers and grass snakes. Yes these were the ones that made me and my sisters scream and run upstairs as the only good snake in my eyes is a dead one lol.
Have had a similar problem with Kara taking things to school that didnt need to be there. One day she snuck makeup out of the house in her backpack (which is a no no in our house) because she always gets in trouble with it at school. Shes rather play dress up and talk and giggle than do her math homework. Typical 5th grade girl.
Give the boy a pir of goggles and a hammer and chisel and tell him to chip a sculpture lol.
love ya girl,
shellz
I thought to myself as I read, "WTH is that boy carrying around rocks for?" I guess boys will be boys! I suppose it could be worse, he could be collecting bugs and carrying them around LOL eewww.
I'm glad you are feeling a little better... Nothing like the BAT diet to get you through ;)
Keeping you in my thoughts as always.
Oh Sharon your posts always bring tears to my eyes. You are such a beautiful person and writer. I too have been sick, but not like you, but know that awful feeling of life going on around you and you just want to scream Help I am suffering so. And yet no one can and you must muster up the strength for one more moment until it goes away. Like childbirth it is usually forgotten. Oh the ways of the Lord are mysterious.
Very happy you are feeling better. I agree with the other poster in that you will know and like anything else is not something you need to ponder now at least. Things do have a way of working out even if it is not to our liking at the moment.
May God give you strength, blessings and all the love you need.

Our daughter even had a rock collection for awhile!
I am very glad to see this post. I can sense your mirth hiding behind your maternal frustration. Yes, these are the stories that will survive time and will be told when his pretty young date comes home to meet the family! I know you are embracing these moments, because this IS life! Blessings to you, Sweetheart!
My son sneaks stuff to school constantly, most recently being my one and only Digital Camera! Which, btw, got confiscated by his teacher. He got away with it for 2 whole days.
When he was in K, I had to pat him down before he left the house, lest he have his entire collection of Matchbox cars in his pockets. And now that he's in 7th, I apparently have to continue this lovely routine!
Sometimes, however, I feel that school can make too big of a deal over trivial matters. Save it for the big stuff. Kids are only kids for so long...(and besides, how much longer could he carry all those rocks before it would get too heavy??)
I am laughing about the sugar filled snack though!!!
